Effect of Light and Nitrate on the Nitrate Reductase Activity in Cucumber Plants

Abstract

|
Cucumber plants were grown under high (100μE·s^(-1)·m^(-2)) and low light intensity (25μE·s^(-1)·m^(-2)) and in vivo nitrate reductase activity (NRA), nitrate content and total soluble protein content were measured. The presence of light was absolute requirement to induce NRA and the use of protein synthesis inhibitor suggested the necessity of new synthesis of NR-protein for the activation of nitrate reductase.
